The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made changes to its Playing Conditions based on recommendations from the Men’s Cricket Committee led by Sourav Ganguly. These changes, which have also been endorsed by the Women’s Cricket Committee, will take effect from June 1, 2023. The main changes include the removal of soft signals, making helmet protection mandatory for specific positions, and counting runs off a Free Hit even if the ball hits the stumps. Ganguly highlighted that the decision to remove soft signals was based on avoiding confusion in catch referrals, while the mandatory helmet rule aims to prioritize player safety.
