Wellington is considering introducing bendy buses on its busiest route, Route 2, to meet the growing demand for public transportation. The route, which does 10,000 trips per day, cannot accommodate double-decker buses due to the Karori Tunnel. Therefore, the option of using articulated buses, also known as bendy buses, is being explored. Other alternatives, such as improving capacity or frequency, redesigning the route, or modifying the tunnel, are also being considered. The decision on the future of bendy buses will be discussed by councillors in the coming month.
