Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has indicated that New Zealand’s mandatory seven-day self-isolation requirement for Covid-19 could be relaxed by the end of the month. While most Covid-19 rules were dropped last September, the isolation period for those with the virus remained in place. The Cabinet will make a decision before the end of August on whether to relax this requirement. The National Party leader, Christopher Luxon, believes it is time to move on and trusts people to manage Covid-19 themselves. However, Hipkins emphasized that the health system is still under pressure, and they are focused on getting through the winter.
