Nurses in New Zealand have voted to accept the latest pay offer from Te Whatu Ora, preventing the planned strike action scheduled for this week. The agreement between the government and the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) includes a salary increase for all roles covered by the collective, a flat rate salary increase for designated senior nurses and midwives, and further salary increases for all steps of the scales. The settlement also comprises lump sum payments for NZNO members and addresses safe staffing concerns. The decision to accept the offer follows recent pay equity settlements aimed at addressing historic discrimination in nursing pay.
