New Zealand experienced a record net migration gain in the 12 months ending in August, with a net gain of 110,200 people, according to Stats NZ. The country saw a record high of 225,400 migrant arrivals and 115,100 departures, making it the first time annual net migration topped 100,000 since July 2023. Net migration remains driven by non-New Zealand citizen arrivals, with about eight out of nine migrants arriving on a non-New Zealand passport. Migrant arrivals of non-NZ citizens increased by nearly 300% compared to the previous year.
