The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has announced plans to increase the number of road safety cameras across the country. Currently, there are about 150 safety cameras in operation, with around 90 owned by the New Zealand Police. NZTA aims to take over the operation of police cameras by mid-2024 and plans to expand the total number to 200 by June 30, 2025. The agency is working on establishing systems and processes to manage the additional cameras for enhanced road safety. The specific number and types of cameras are yet to be finalized.
