New Zealand is unifying its kerbside recycling rules from February 1. Accepted items include glass, paper, certain plastics, and metal cans. Excluded are small items, aerosols, liquid paperboard, specific plastics, aluminum items, all lids, and large items. This nationwide standard aims to improve recycling quality and reduce contamination, which has been costly in Auckland. The changes are part of Auckland’s goal for zero waste by 2040. The Auckland Council website provides more details on these guidelines.
