Starting Sunday, New Zealand introduces new food labeling requirements to help identify common allergens easily, benefiting up to 8% of New Zealanders with food allergies. Foods packaged after 25 February 2024 must clearly declare allergens, with life-threatening ones highlighted in bold and summarized in a ‘contains’ statement. Foods packaged before this date follow previous rules until 2026. While cafes and restaurants aren’t required to label foods, allergen information must be available upon request or listed on menus.
