As Easter approaches, Tearfund has released its latest Chocolate Scorecard, assessing the ethical practices of 47 chocolate companies. With most cocoa sourced from West Africa, where child labor is prevalent, the scorecard aims to inform Kiwis about the conditions behind their favorite brands. Whittaker’s, a popular New Zealand company, ranked sixth, reflecting its commitment to ethical and sustainable practices. However, despite efforts to address child labor, many supply chains still lack monitoring. Tearfund emphasizes the need for government legislation to combat modern slavery in the industry.
