A state of emergency has been declared in Gore, New Zealand, as torrential rain has led to flooding in the area. MetService issued heavy rain, strong wind, and snow warnings for much of the South Island. The warnings are expected to last until late afternoon, with peak rainfall rates of 15 to 25 mm per hour in some areas. The Gore District Council reported that the stormwater and wastewater networks in Gore and Mataura were overwhelmed, causing surface flooding. While no evacuations have been necessary so far, residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid travel. Schools and roads have also been affected by the heavy rainfall in the region. Motorists have been cautioned to drive carefully, especially in adverse weather conditions.
