New Zealand is set to make significant changes to its work visa rules, affecting holders of Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWVs). Starting in February 2024, the median wage used to assess AEWV applications will increase to $31.61 per hour, a 6.6% increase from the current rate. Additionally, the maximum validity of AEWVs will extend from 3 years to 5 years in November 2023. While this provides an opportunity for longer stays, individuals earning less than the new median wage should consider applying before the wage hike to avoid potential issues. Changes in health, character, or employment conditions may also impact visa applications, making it essential to seek advice when necessary. New character requirements and upcoming AEWV process changes will add complexity to the visa process.
