MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for large parts of the North Island, including Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, and others. The thunderstorms may bring heavy rainfall rates of 25 to 40 mm per hour, posing a risk of surface flooding, flash flooding, and potential slips. The adverse weather conditions are expected from Monday afternoon and may continue into Boxing Day, particularly for areas like Bay of Plenty and Waikato. Residents in these regions are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
