In the past week, New Zealand reported a total of 8,040 COVID-19 cases, with 4,992 identified as reinfections. The 7-day average for new cases is 1,146, and there are currently 324 cases in hospitals, including 6 in intensive care. The 7-day average for COVID-19-related deaths is 11, with a total of 77 deaths reported last week. It’s noteworthy that the reported deaths now include cases from December 23, 2023, to January 11, 2024, due to a delay in cause-of-death coding over the holiday period. The total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 stands at 3,722.
