New Zealand’s cabinet ministers will consider the possibility of relaxing Covid-19 restrictions that are still in place. The Health Minister, Ayesha Verrall, has confirmed that the government will take into account the latest public health advice and the condition of the health system ahead of the winter season. The last remaining rule to be scrapped would be the seven-day isolation period for those who test positive for the virus. Business New Zealand CEO, Kirk Hope, has urged ministers to examine international norms, citing the UK and Australia’s abandonment of mandatory isolation requirements. However, experts are calling for vigilance towards Covid-19 as it remains a fatal and highly transmissible disease.
