Sri Lanka is set to play against Ireland in the historic first-ever test match between the two countries at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Although Sri Lanka is favored to win, Ireland is looking to break its losing streak in its four tests since gaining test status in 2017. However, Ireland has an impressive record in ODI and T20 cricket, with 75 wins out of 185 exchanges and 66 wins out of 147, respectively. The two-match series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship and is significant to Sri Lanka to get back on track following two recent away losses to New Zealand. Sri Lanka has a mixture of experienced and young players, including young batting sensation Nishan Madushka, who debuted against New Zealand and scored a double century against the Enlarged Lions for a Board XI and 1000 domestic runs in just five innings.
