New Zealand experienced its largest annual net migration loss to Australia since 2013, according to data from Stats NZ for 2022. The figures show a net migration loss of 13,400 people from New Zealand to Australia, with 33,863 people migrating from New Zealand to Australia and 20,431 moving in the opposite direction. The allure of higher wages, cheaper living costs, and tax benefits are among the factors driving this migration trend. Kiwis, including nurses, have cited better job prospects, increased income, and lower expenses as reasons for their move to Australia. While the loss of skilled professionals has raised concerns, New Zealand has also seen net migration gains from other parts of the world.
