Prime Minister Chris Hipkins became emotional while addressing the media about the Auckland CBD shooting incident. He confirmed that two people, along with the shooter, had tragically lost their lives, and six others, including a police officer, were injured at the construction site. The offender was armed with a pump-action shotgun and was later located by the police.

Hipkins praised the bravery of the New Zealand Police and ambulance first responders, who risked their lives to save others during the fast-moving situation. He emphasized that any loss of innocent lives is upsetting for political leaders and all New Zealanders.

National leader Christopher Luxon and ACT party leader David Seymour also expressed their sympathies and support for the victims’ families and commended the courage and effectiveness of the police and emergency responders.

The situation is still ongoing, and further updates will be provided by the police throughout the day.
