Tourism industry representatives are suggesting that passports should no longer be required for travel between Australia and New Zealand. The idea is to use the trans-Tasman border as a test case for more efficient entry and screening technologies, making it easier for people to enter without passports. The Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) wants immediate action and is calling for a task force to trial a seamless border by the end of the year. They believe that facial recognition technology could replace the need for passports, travel documents, or boarding passes at the border.
