The New Zealand Association for Migration and Investment (NZAMI) has called for more consistent immigration laws, arguing that frequent policy changes are undermining their objectives. Parties, including National, ACT, and Labour, have recently launched immigration policies targeting migrant parents and grandparents, with Labour also promising amnesty for overstayers who have been in the country for over 10 years. NZAMI Chair Arunima Dhingra stressed that without policy consistency, new immigration laws would not be fit for purpose and could weaken New Zealand’s credibility globally. Dhingra also advocated for long-overdue changes to Parent Visa legislation.
