Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is preventing more than 500 offshore migrants with work visas linked to employers under investigation from entering New Zealand. This action comes as part of INZ’s ongoing investigation into Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scams. In recent months, more than 140 Indian and Bangladeshi workers on AEWVs were discovered living in poor conditions and without income. As of September 29, INZ had placed border alerts on 573 offshore AEWV holders, including 380 Chinese nationals. INZ is also investigating 224 accredited employers, with 61 having their accreditation revoked and 22 suspended. A review of the AEWV scheme’s processes is underway to address concerns about immigration fraud and migrant exploitation.
