Insurance company AMI Insurance has released a list of the top 10 most stolen cars in New Zealand, with the Toyota Aqua and Mazda Demio taking the first two spots. The list shows a “16% increase in theft” over the past six months, with ram-raids and joyriding cited as common reasons for theft. Motorists can take simple measures to deter thieves, such as keeping valuables out of sight, parking off the street, and installing a steering wheel lock or immobiliser. AA Insurance’s head of motor claims Beau Paparoa said the list does not mean people with those cars should sell them, but rather to make it difficult for thieves to steal.
