Prabath Jayasuriya is close to becoming the fastest spinner to reach 50 Test wickets after a successful run since his debut last year. The Sri Lanka left-armer has taken 48 wickets in just seven Tests and could set a new record for the fewest matches needed to reach 50 Test wickets among spinners with two more wickets in the second innings against Ireland. He is also within reach of becoming the equal-second fastest overall to reach 50 wickets, currently held by South Africa pacer Vernon Philander and England quick Tom Richardson. If Jayasuriya continues to perform at a similar level, he could also break the record for the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets.
