An unfamiliar Sri Lankan cricketer to the Wairarapa community named Shamal Perera surprised everyone with an amazing game. He played brilliantly for Wairarapa North and helped them win by 111 runs against Wairarapa South. Perera batted exceptionally well, scoring 92 runs, and even took two wickets when he bowled. His performance has earned him recognition and a chance to play at a higher level.

Shamal is the former captain of the Sri Lankan Sports Club (SLSC) Premier’s team and is well-known in the Sri Lankan community, particularly in Wellington.
