Doppelmayr, the world’s largest ski lift manufacturer, is suggesting an alternative public transport system for New Zealandโ€”building a network of aerial cable cars. With a successful cable car network in Bolivia’s city of La Paz, Doppelmayr aims to introduce this innovative mode of transportation to New Zealand. The proposed cable cars could transport up to 8,000 people per hour per direction, equivalent to the capacity of a light rail system. The company has shortlisted ten potential sites for these cable cars, focusing on the North Island initially, including routes to Auckland and Wellington airports. However, some experts express concerns, suggesting a potential diversion from ongoing crucial transport projects.
